Learning about Rats

Regulars to MGP Community Garden may know that we’ve been experiencing some persistent ratty visitors. The compost is a key food source for them. They’re even chewing through the bins! Reluctantly we’ve decided it’s necessary to temporarily close our compost bins and tumblers to the public. We know that keen composters travel quite some distances to avail themselves of our community compost bins. We love to be able to provide this community service and are actively monitoring the situation. Thank you all for your patience and understanding. This is a very important thing to get under control for our garden, for our neighbours and for public health.

Alongside the closure of our compost bins we’re getting better educated. Here’s Willoughby Council Mark with some tips on rat proofing standing compost bins.
