Regulars to MGP Community Garden may know that we’ve been experiencing some persistent ratty visitors. The compost is a key food source for these rodents. They’re even chewing through the bins!
Reluctantly we’ve decided it’s necessary to temporarily close our compost tumblers to the public. We know that keen composters travel quite some distances to use our community compost bins and we love being able to provide this community service. We’re actively monitoring the situation with a view to re-opening the bins as soon as possible.
Thanks for your patience and understanding. It’s very important to get this under control for our garden, for our neighbours and for public health.
Alongside the closure of our compost bins we’re getting better educated. Here’s Willoughby Council Bushland Educator, Mark, with some tips on rat proofing tumbleweed roundstyle compost bins. (Seven videos attached).
